MAZ Hair Extensions

Common questions

Questions about your hair, the bonds and the first wash.

The real test is not how the hair looks when you leave the studio. It is what happens after the first wash.

Here I answer the questions I am most often asked about texture matching, naturally curly extension hair, everyday care, suitability and appointments.

Texture matching and curly extension hair

Yes. I specialise in bespoke keratin bond hair extensions with a particular focus on naturally wavy and curly hair. I work with straight and fine hair with the same individual level of care.

It means matching how the extension hair behaves, not only what colour it is. I consider the curl or wave pattern, strand thickness, density, movement, expansion and shrinkage, and how the hair behaves after washing and air-drying.

Sometimes I combine several textures in one set. The aim is for your extensions to work with your natural hair rather than asking your natural hair to change for the extensions.

No. I work with naturally textured single-donor hair, cut from the donor with its own pattern. It is available both coloured and as raw virgin hair.

No. One head of hair can naturally contain several patterns, and sometimes an exact match everywhere is not even the best option. A closer match through the visible upper areas and a softer, easier texture underneath can blend beautifully and make everyday care easier.

Yes, but textured hair is more delicate, especially when it has been coloured. Frequent high heat will eventually affect how well the natural texture returns, so heat protection and careful temperature control matter.

Living with your extensions

Yes, you can air-dry the lengths. If your roots dry within 20–30 minutes, you can leave them. If they do not, dry the root and bond area. Never go to bed with wet extensions.

You may feel the bonds for the first few days while you adjust to them. They should not remain painful. Contact me if a bond continues to pull or hurt after that.

If nothing in the studio is right, I will source specifically for you. Unusual textures can take 1–3 months to source, and I would rather wait than compromise on the match.

Yes. Straight, wavy and curly extension hair are not cared for identically. The brushing method is different, the products may be different and moisture matters more for textured hair. Whatever the texture, the root area and individual bonds still need to stay properly separated.

The first-wash test

“The first wash matters more than the fitting-day photo.”

The question is what happens when you air-dry your hair, when it rains, when you are on holiday or when the weather is humid. A perfect colour match in the wrong texture is still the wrong match.

03 · Your hair

Suitability, keratin bonds and re-use

Absolutely. MAZ is not only for curly hair. Straight hair is approached with the same individual attention to texture, density, colour, movement, placement and strand size.

Often, yes. Fine hair may need smaller strands, less weight and more careful placement, particularly around delicate hairlines and shorter sides. Not every fine-haired client is suitable, and sometimes the right recommendation is less hair, a different length, more frequent maintenance or not fitting extensions at all.

Keratin bonds give me strand-by-strand control. I can adjust the amount of extension hair, amount of keratin, finished bond size, colour combination, texture, direction and placement around the head.

For textured hair, placement must consider where curls separate, where the hair expands, growth direction, shorter areas, density changes, the parting and how the hair behaves when dry.

Two clients who both want 20-inch extensions can need completely different amounts of hair, textures, preparation and fitting work. This is not about hiding prices. It is about giving you an estimate that actually relates to you.

You send an enquiry with clear photographs first. I review your hair personally and reply with a realistic approximate price or range before consultation dates are offered.

Good-quality hair can usually be re-bonded and reused several times. At maintenance, the extensions are removed, the natural hair is separated and checked, the old keratin is cut away and suitable hair is prepared again with fresh keratin.

The hair gradually shortens by around an inch at each maintenance. Heavily layered hair can become difficult to reuse, and volume-only clients may need some new longer hair introduced into the higher areas as reused strands become shorter.
